The
Chuppah (A.K.A. Huppah) is a traditional part of the Jewish wedding ceremony.
Many believe that the Chuppah is a symbolic representation of the home
in which the married couple live. The covered roof represents security,
while the open sides represent hospitality to all who enter. The four
pillars that hold the canopy represent the foundations of faith and trust
on which the marriage is secured. It is also widely believed that the
Chuppah is representative of the parochet (the curtain that covers the
ark of the Torah in a synagogue). It is for this reason that many believe
that while standing under the Chuppah reciting the marriage vows, one
is close to God. Regardless of your personal beliefs, the Chuppah infuses
the wedding couple with a pure sense of spirituality and adds a touch
of elegance to the wedding ceremony. |
